I was inspired by the beautiful, amazing ecosystem of the mangroves in the area where I live. I used to play in them as a child, but they are rapidly disappearing, often seen as waste land ripe for development. The mangrove tidal swamps are invaluable as fish nurseries etc. However,  real estate for humans is now seen as more important.  Although not indigenous, I feel myself a saltwater woman with a Celtic heritage. Both cultures have a strong connection to country – land and waters – which I wanted to capture and express in this piece.
