As a dual citizen of France and Australia, birds reflect my personal narratives of migration, belonging and displacement.
These Australasian darter birds are a representation of my double cultural belonging.
I have been regularly observing these birds at a local nature reserve in the Dandenong Ranges where I spent a lot of time as child exploring nature.
The geometric patterns in their plumage are specific to the glazed roof tiles of Burgundy – a distinctive architectural feature of the region, dating back to the 14th century in France.
Having spent my adolescence in Dijon, they resonate another place of personal belonging.
