This mosaic is the second in an ongoing series using slag from historic mine furnaces. The thought that slag was once molten as was the glass, and that both were created by chance thousands of years ago makes them both interesting and comfortable partners for me. Both are metamorphic products of extreme heat. By cutting them, the serendipitous coming together of the small squares unites; one an unwanted product of the extreme heat, the other highly sought after.
