“Cala Munnda” MAANZ WA Exhibition

March 3 @ 6:00 pm - March 19 @ 4:00 pm

Exhibition Title:      Cala Munnda – A Home in the Forest.

The name of Kalamunda was formed by the joining together of two Aboriginal words Cala, meaning bush, and Munnda meaning hearth i.e. a home in the forest.

A home in the forest could be either a home for something that provides a forest home e.g. nests, spider webs, ant hills and houses. Alternatively, something that lives in the forest eg nuts, wildflowers, trees, birds, spiders, leaves etc. or whatever one thinks represents a home in the forest.

Alternatively, Mason and Bird were largely responsible for establishing Kalamunda through the start of their timber felling/milling and through this brought people who started up the orchards/strawberry fields etc., so another idea may be simply Kalamunda’s industries which would include orchards, wine growing, hiking, wildflowers and timber milling.

There is also an open category if you are not inspired by the Title theme.
