‘Think beyond the square’

The draft schedule is as follows. Thursday evening registration and tradeshow. Symposium speakers and workshops 18th to 20th, with a post conference tour (tentatively MONA) on Mon 21st.
The Symposium committee for Hobart is thrilled to announce our keynote speaker Toyoharu Kii based in Tokyo Japan. In June and July of this year he exhibited in Chicago and taught at the Chicago Mosaic School. He works mostly in marble and produces monochromatic works show interesting textures and andamento.
He is the Chair of the Mosaic Art Association in Japan (MAAJ) and is a member of AIMC.
As well as plenary sessions and workshops, there is a silent auction of small works, brown bag exchange and many social events to meet and mingle with mosaicists from around Australia and the world.

The National Exhibition
This is our biggest event and accompanies our Symposium which is held every two years in a changing location in Australia.

The 30:30 Vision “Think Beyond The Square” Exhibition
This is an open exhibition and our signature exhibition that also runs every second year in the same year and city as the MAANZ Symposium. 30:30 Vision is an exhibition of works that are exactly 30cm x 30cm and respond to the Symposiums theme. The Tessera Exhibiton
This is new exhibition on the MAANZ calendar and also runs every second year in the same year and city as the MAANZ Symposium. It is an open exhibition with no theme, entry to all, work can be framed and exhibited before. It is open to children only up to the age of 17.

Every two years MAANZ hosts a Mosaic Symposium where artists and enthusiasts get together to learn and be inspired by national and international mosaicists. Our past Symposiums were held in Melbourne (2003), Sydney (2005), Tasmania (2007), Brisbane (2009), Barossa Valley, SA (2011) and Melbourne (2013), Sydney (2015) and with each Symposium the events get bigger and better
